Engineering the Future of the Climate Conversation
The Science Museum’s recent Energy Revolution: The Adani Green Energy Gallery presents the ultimate contemporary test for experience delivery: how do you make the invisible forces of climate science and planetary energy systems instantly legible to the public? The space demands an environment where content feels alive and constantly evolving, requiring a robust, highly adaptable technical infrastructure that can support massive, high-contrast media displays without cluttering the clean, architectural vision of the setworks. The Story Engineers delivered an intelligent, network-based hardware solution capable of driving complex data visualisations and interactive elements across the floorplate. By integrating low-latency media distribution directly into the structural framework, we gave the design team complete freedom to display dynamic climate data and immersive imagery without the technology competing with the space.
A Decade of Structural Reliability under Heavy Footfall
This focus on story-driven engineering builds directly on a decade of infrastructure delivery across the museum’s most celebrated spaces. For Mathematics: The Winton Gallery, we nested display hardware within custom housings aligned precisely with aerodynamic airflow curves. For Robots, we managed late-stage content revisions by implementing a six-output synchronised playback server that tied complex multi-channel audio to moving robotics in a seamless loop. When touring constraints defined Top Secret: From Ciphers to Cyber Security, we built the entire show control system into a single transportable flight case, concealing all cabling perfectly within exposed perspex display cases. For the massive 3,000-square-metre Medicine Galleries, we prioritised long-term reliability and accessible design, embedding multi-user touchscreens alongside custom induction loops and British Sign Language activation systems.
Proving the Power of Precision Integration
Our technical framework helped Mathematics: The Winton Gallery earn critical acclaim as “visually stunning” from Londonist alongside a four-star review from The Daily Telegraph. Meanwhile, our robust engineering for Robots allowed the exhibition to successfully transition into a major international tour across Asia and Australia. Across more than 3,000 square metres of permanent and touring exhibition space, we ensure the underlying technical frameworks reliably support the creative narrative, standing up to the reality of heavy public use.
