The Monarch Theatre
The world's first immersive DC-themed dining experience combined high-end gastronomy with cinematic storytelling in a glamorous Art Deco basement in Soho, London. Tasked with delivering the narrative-led technology integration, The Story Engineers mapped a multi-sensory visitor journey across five uniquely themed spaces. At the heart of the venue, an eleven-course tasting menu was synchronised with 360-degree projection mapping and spatial audio, earning international critical acclaim and a Michelin Guide listing before closing due to a landlord lease dispute.

Mapping Narrative Landscapes Across Gotham City Subterranean Spaces
Wonderland Restaurants presented a bold ambition: transport high-end diners directly into the atmospheric underworld of Gotham City. The brief required a technical architecture capable of turning world-class gastronomy into a living piece of theatre. This was not a standard restaurant build; it was an intricate narrative footprint split across five uniquely themed spaces. The design needed to weave iconic DC Comics lore into the physical environment without letting the technology break the illusion of the space.
Synchronising Spatial Sound and Multi-Sensory Projection Networks
The Story Engineers assembled a multi-disciplinary team to map, build, and integrate a comprehensive technology framework throughout the basement venue. Rather than isolating individual screens and speakers, the entire system routed signals across a shared network to achieve frame-accurate choreography. In the 20-seat Monarch Theatre room, floor-to-ceiling projection mapping and 360-degree spatial audio were hard-locked to the kitchen’s delivery timeline. Every chapter of the eleven-course tasting menu triggered automated shifts in atmospheric soundscapes, lighting tones, and visual media accents.
Michelin Recognition and High Ticket Demand Under International Acclaim
The system ran reliably throughout a highly successful two-and-a-half-year Soho residency, successfully capturing a high-end international tourist and lifestyle demographic. The culinary show achieved global acclaim and secured a coveted listing in the Michelin Guide for its visually striking, creative dishes. Major lifestyle and food publications widely praised the technical execution of the floor-to-ceiling interactive courses, validating the commercial and creative ambition of the venue.
